How to Apply

The Application Process

There are several steps in the PHA Public Housing application process, as outlined below.

Submit an Application

As of 2020, the PHA only accepts applications via their online application portal. Unfortunately, due to the overwhelming length of our current wait list for public housing and project based housing, the PHA closed its wait list at 12am on Oct 1, 2020. We will keep everyone posted as to when we plan to reopen the list in the future.  Note: Our Section 8 voucher waitlist remains open at waitlistcentralri.com

Waiting List

Due to the long length of our waiting list, the PHA made the difficult decision to close the public housing waiting list on October 1, 2020. There are no current plans to reopen the list.

Beginning in March of 2020, all applications to PHA Public Housing must be made online. When the wait list is open, applications that are faxed, mailed, emailed or hand-delivered are no longer accepted. During times when the PHA Public Housing is accepting applications, those requiring a reasonable accommodation for the application process would contact the PHA at 401-751-6400 or via email at waitlist@ProvHousing.org.

Transfer List – To inquire about your place on the transfer list, please contact your Management Office or email waitlist@ProvHousing.org using the subject line: Transfer List.

Public Housing FAQs

Below you will find some of the PHA’s most frequently asked questions (FAQs) about our public housing.  New questions are added as they arise, so check back regularly!

Am I eligible for Public Housing?

In order to be eligible for public housing, your income must be less than 80% of the area median income provided to the PHA by HUD. Final determination of income is reviewed once all third party verification have been received. The income limits can be found on this link or in the chart provided. HUD’s income guidelines change each year.
