The PHA’s Office of Security Operations, in collaboration with the Providence Police Department and its Public Housing Unit (PHU), provide 24-hour security services for PHA residents. The PPD and the PHU provide patrols in the family developments, while PHA security guards provide roving patrols at all elderly-disabled developments. For an emergency matter or to report a crime in progress, all residents must call 911.
In addition to providing security patrols, Security Operations also provides monitoring of all camera systems and coordinates issuance of resident identification and building access cards. To report a non-emergency security matter or to request a new ID or building entry card, please call the Office of Security Operations at (401) 421-6980.
Security Operations and the Providence Police Department collaborate to provide the Youth Police Initiative or YPI. YPI is a community-based intervention program delivered by the National American Family Institute, intended to bring about positive changes in relationships between police departments and local at-risk youth. The program engages youth ages 13-18 with the police officers who patrol their neighborhoods in a four-week interactive training program that seeks to prevent gang involvement, reduce crime, limit delinquency, and increase conflict resolution skills among at-risk youth. If you are interested in enrolling a youth in the YPI program, please contact the Office of Security Services at (401) 421-6980.
